CEFR A2 · Elementary
A2 opens the past tense, which in Irish is marked at the front of the word rather than the end: séimhiú on a consonant (cheannaigh mé, bhuail sí) and d' before a vowel or f (d'ól mé, d'fhan siad), plus the handful of irregulars a learner meets constantly - chuaigh, rinne, dúirt, fuair, chonaic. You take on the prepositional pronouns that carry so much of Irish grammar (orm, ort, air, uirthi; agam, liom, dom), which is how you say you have a cold or a headache - tá slaghdán orm - and how you say you like something at all. A first future in -faidh/-fidh, ag + verbal noun for what you are doing, and frequency words from i gcónaí to riamh let you describe your routine, last weekend and your free time.
