Tá has its own question and negative forms. The question is an bhfuil, the negative is níl, and the negative question is nach bhfuil. The answer repeats the verb rather than using a word for yes: tá or níl.
Examples
- An bhfuil aon rud agat don tinneas cinn?
- Do you have anything for a headache?
- Níl oideas agam.
- I do not have a prescription.
- An bhfuil sé sin ar fáil gan oideas?
- Is that available without a prescription?
The mistake to avoid
Irish has no word for yes - you answer with the verb itself.
