CEFR A1 · Beginner
Italian A1 is where the sound system pays off immediately: spelling is nearly phonetic, so from the first week you can read a menu or a train timetable aloud and be understood. You learn the present tense of essere and avere, the regular -are, -ere and -ire verbs, the gendered articles (il, la, un, una) and how adjectives agree, which is enough to introduce yourself, order a coffee and ask where the station is.
