Italian needs no extra word and no change of order for a yes/no question - the same sentence with rising intonation does it. Otherwise open with a question word: chi, che cosa, dove, quando, come, perché, quanto.
Examples
- Parli inglese?
- Do you speak English?
- Come ti chiami?
- What is your name?
- Dove abiti?
- Where do you live?
The mistake to avoid
Dov'è and com'è drop the vowel before è - written with an apostrophe, not a space.
Where this fits in
Greetings & introductions, Italian A1: Say hello, give your name, ask someone else's, and where they're from.
