A nationality is an adjective and changes with the person: italiano / italiana / italiani / italiane. Ones ending in -e, like inglese and francese, have only two forms - inglese for one person and inglesi for several. They are lower case.
Examples
- Sono italiano, di Roma.
- I'm Italian, from Rome.
- Lei è spagnola e io sono tedesco.
- She is Spanish and I am German.
- Siamo inglesi.
- We are English.
The mistake to avoid
The -e type does not take -a for a woman: a woman is inglese, never "inglesa".
Where this fits in
Greetings & introductions, Italian A1: Say hello, give your name, ask someone else's, and where they're from.
