Italian has no 's: you name the thing first, then di and the owner - il cane di Marco (Marco's dog). Before a noun with an article, di merges with it: del, della, dei, delle - la casa della nonna, il gatto dei vicini.
Examples
- Questo è il cane di Marco.
- This is Marco's dog.
- Il gatto della vicina è nero.
- The neighbour's cat is black.
- La casa dei miei amici è grande.
- My friends' house is big.
The mistake to avoid
"Di la vicina" is wrong: di + la always becomes della.
Where this fits in
Family & people, Italian A1: Talk about your family, say what people are like and how old they are, and introduce your friends.
