Italian uses c'è (from ci è) for one thing and ci sono for more than one: c'è un giardino, ci sono tre camere. In the negative non goes first: non c'è un balcone. The same words ask the question, with a rising voice.
Examples
- C'è un bagno al piano di sopra.
- There's a bathroom upstairs.
- Ci sono tre camere da letto.
- There are three bedrooms.
- Non c'è un giardino.
- There isn't a garden.
The mistake to avoid
"C'è tre camere" is wrong: with a plural it must be ci sono.
