To ask for something politely, start with 'Ga i...?' ('May I have...?') and put the thing straight after. 'Ga i' softens the first letter of the next word (c becomes g, p becomes b, t becomes d), and you finish with 'os gwelwch yn dda' for 'please'.
Examples
- Ga i goffi, os gwelwch yn dda?
- May I have a coffee, please?
- Ga i'r bil, os gwelwch yn dda?
- May I have the bill, please?
- Ga i ddau de a bara brith?
- May I have two teas and some bara brith?
The mistake to avoid
Forgetting the softening and saying 'Ga i coffi' instead of 'Ga i goffi'.
