A yes/no question uses a special question form of bod - Wyt ti…? for ti, Ydy…? for he/she, Ydych chi…? for chi. The answer is not ie or na but a repeat of the verb: Ydw or Nac ydw. Other questions start with pwy, beth, ble, pryd, sut or pam.
Examples
- Wyt ti'n siarad Cymraeg?
- Do you speak Welsh?
- Beth ydy dy enw di?
- What is your name?
- Ble wyt ti'n byw?
- Where do you live?
The mistake to avoid
Welsh has no all-purpose "yes" - you answer by echoing the verb you were asked with.
Where this fits in
Greetings & introductions, Welsh A1: Say hello, give your name, ask someone else's, and where they're from.
