Beğenmek takes a direct object with the accusative: bu filmi beğendim. Hoşuma gitmek turns it round - the thing becomes the subject and you appear as a possessive: bu film hoşuma gitti. Sevmek is for lasting affection rather than one reaction.
Examples
- Bu şarkıyı çok beğendim.
- I really liked this song.
- Bu film çok hoşuma gitti.
- I really liked this film.
- Klasik müziği severim.
- I like classical music.
The mistake to avoid
Hoşuma gitmek agrees with the thing, not with you: filmler hoşuma gitti.
