Every Turkish ending copies the vowel colour of the word it attaches to. Two-way harmony picks e or a: evde, okulda. Four-way harmony picks i, ı, u or ü by the last vowel: evim, kitabım, okulum, gözüm. Nothing is irregular here - the ending simply follows the word.
Examples
- Sabah evde kahvaltı yapıyorum.
- In the morning I have breakfast at home.
- Öğleden sonra okulda çalışıyorum.
- In the afternoon I study at school.
- Öğlen bir mola veriyorum.
- At midday I take a break.
The mistake to avoid
After a front vowel the ending stays front: evde, never "evda".
