CEFR A1 · Beginner
At A1 Russian asks you to master the Cyrillic alphabet and the sound of a language with no articles and no present-tense «to be»: я студент, это мой дом. You learn the cases only as fixed phrases at first (в Москве, по-русски, у меня есть), the present tense of говорить, знать, жить and хотеть, the numbers, the days and the shift from ты to вы. Every lesson is short and spoken, built on the hundred words a visitor actually uses to greet, order a coffee and ask the way.
