Italian makes a suggestion with the ordinary present tense: Ci vediamo venerdì? is literally "do we see each other Friday?" and works as an invitation. Perché non + present softens it, and Ti va di + infinitive asks whether someone fancies it. The usual answers are volentieri, mi va bene, or mi dispiace, non posso.
Examples
- Ci vediamo venerdì sera?
- Shall we meet on Friday evening?
- Perché non vieni da me sabato?
- Why don't you come to my place on Saturday?
- Ti va di andare al cinema?
- Do you fancy going to the cinema?
The mistake to avoid
Don't use the future to invite: "ci vedremo venerdì?" is a prediction about Friday, not an offer.
