To say you are going to a professional, Italian uses da plus that person, not a place word: vado dal medico, dal dentista. Shops and institutions take in or a instead: in farmacia, in ospedale, all'ospedale. Da merges with the article as dal, dalla, dallo.
Examples
- Domani vado dal medico.
- Tomorrow I am going to the doctor.
- Passo in farmacia a prendere lo sciroppo.
- I will stop by the pharmacy to get the syrup.
- Ho un appuntamento dalla dottoressa alle tre.
- I have an appointment with the doctor at three.
The mistake to avoid
Dal medico means at or to the doctor's - the place is understood, so do not add one.
