Every Greek noun is masculine, feminine or neuter, and the article shows which: ο, η, το. In the accusative they become τον, την, το. The ending of the noun usually tells you the gender: -ος is masculine, -α and -η feminine, -ο and -ι neuter.

- The mirror is dirty.
- Πλένω τα πιάτα κάθε βράδυ.
- I wash the dishes every evening.
- Βγάζω την τσάντα με τα σκουπίδια.
- I take out the bag with the rubbish.
The mistake to avoid
The article changes in the accusative even when the noun does not.
