To say what you did once in the past, change the verb stem and add -α, -ες, -ε, -αμε, -ατε, -αν: γράφω → έγραψα, δουλεύω → δούλεψα. Many short verbs also add έ- at the front so the stress can fall three syllables from the end (έγραψα, but γράψαμε).
Examples
- Χθες έφαγα ψάρι στην ταβέρνα.
- Yesterday I ate fish at the taverna.
- Το περασμένο Σαββατοκύριακο πήγαμε στη θάλασσα.
- Last weekend we went to the sea.
- Τι έκανες χθες το βράδυ;
- What did you do last night?
The mistake to avoid
Keeping the έ- in the longer forms — it's έγραψα but γράψαμε, never "εγράψαμε" in everyday Greek.
Where this fits in
Το παρελθόν και το περασμένο Σαββατοκύριακο, Greek A2: Talk about the past: yesterday, last weekend, and travel memories.
