With verbs like se coucher and se reposer the pronoun sits immediately before the verb, and the negation wraps both of them together: ne me couche pas. In the passé composé the ne and pas wrap the auxiliary instead: je ne me suis pas reposé.
Examples
- Je ne me couche pas avant minuit.
- I do not go to bed before midnight.
- Il ne s'endort pas facilement.
- He does not fall asleep easily.
- Hier je ne me suis pas reposée.
- Yesterday I did not rest.
The mistake to avoid
The pas goes after the verb, not after the pronoun: je ne me couche pas, never "je ne me pas couche".
