To tell someone what to do, use the present tense form without the subject pronoun: tu form for a friend, vous for a stranger or a group. With -er verbs the tu form drops its final -s: tu tournes → Tourne !
Examples
- Tournez à gauche après la banque.
- Turn left after the bank.
- Continue tout droit jusqu'au pont.
- Keep going straight to the bridge.
- Prenez la deuxième rue à droite.
- Take the second street on the right.
The mistake to avoid
Leaving the pronoun in — "vous tournez à gauche" is a statement, not an instruction.
