French usually suggests something with on plus the ordinary present tense: On se voit vendredi ? is literally "we see each other Friday?" and works as an invitation. Si on + imperfect (Si on allait au cinéma ?) is the standard way to say "how about…", and the answer is volontiers, ça me va, or désolé, je ne peux pas.
Examples
- On se voit vendredi soir ?
- Shall we meet on Friday evening?
- Si on allait au cinéma samedi ?
- How about going to the cinema on Saturday?
- Pourquoi tu ne viens pas chez moi ?
- Why don't you come to my place?
The mistake to avoid
After si on, use the imperfect, not the conditional: "si on allait", never "si on irait".
Where this fits in
Projets et rendez-vous, French A2: Proposer une sortie, fixer un rendez-vous, le déplacer ou l'annuler, et parler de la météo qui décide des projets.
