A Welsh sentence starts with the verb. Bod has a different form for each subject: dw i, rwyt ti, mae e, mae hi, dyn ni, maen nhw. Mae is used with a noun subject too: mae Siân yn gweithio.
Examples
- Dw i'n gadael y tŷ am wyth o'r gloch.
- I leave the house at eight o'clock.
- Mae hi'n cael cinio am hanner dydd.
- She has lunch at midday.
- Maen nhw'n mynd i'r gwaith ar y bws.
- They go to work on the bus.
The mistake to avoid
Mae is only for he, she, it and named subjects - never for I, which takes dw.
