Welsh answers with the verb, not with a word for yes. Oes asks whether something exists and is answered oes or nac oes. Ydy asks about a definite thing and is answered ydy or nac ydy. Negatives add dim: does dim, dydy e ddim.
Examples
- Oes rhywbeth gyda chi at gur pen?
- Do you have something for a headache?
- Nac oes, does dim byd ar ôl.
- No, there is nothing left.
- Ydy'r feddyginiaeth yma'n gryf?
- Is this medicine strong?
The mistake to avoid
The answer has to match the question word: oes to oes, ydy to ydy.
Where this fits in
