Welsh puts the modal idea in a phrase, not a single verb: Dw i'n gallu (I can), Mae'n rhaid i mi (I must), Dw i eisiau (I want). Note that eisiau takes no yn - "dw i eisiau mynd", never "dw i'n eisiau mynd".
Examples
- Alli di anfon y cyfeiriad ata i?
- Can you send me the address?
- Mae'n rhaid i mi adael yn gynt heddiw.
- I have to leave earlier today.
- Dw i eisiau gofyn un cwestiwn bach.
- I want to ask one small question.
The mistake to avoid
Eisiau is the odd one out: no yn in front of it. Angen behaves the same way - "mae angen i mi fynd".
Where this fits in
Ffôn, negeseuon a phroblemau bach, Welsh A2: Ffonio ac ysgrifennu, ymddiheuro, datrys camddealltwriaeth a gofyn am help - bywyd bob dydd pan nad yw pethau'n mynd yn ôl y cynllun.
