Turkish has no word for "that" after verbs like düşünmek or göstermek. Instead, turn the inner verb into -dık (past/present) or -ecek (future), add the possessive for its subject and the object ending -ı/-i; the subject of that clause takes the genitive -in.
Examples
- Araştırmalar bu politikanın işe yaramadığını gösteriyor.
- Research shows that this policy does not work.
- Yazarın haklı olduğunu düşünüyorum.
- I think that the author is right.
- Uzmanlar sorunun büyüyeceğini savunuyor.
- Experts argue that the problem will grow.
The mistake to avoid
Forgetting the genitive on the inner subject (politikanın, sorunun) is the classic error.
