A yes/no question adds a separate little word - mi, mı, mu or mü by vowel harmony - written apart from the word but attached in pronunciation. It goes after whatever is being questioned. Other questions use kim, ne, nerede, ne zaman, nasıl or neden.
Examples
- İngilizce biliyor musunuz?
- Do you speak English?
- Adınız ne?
- What is your name?
- Nerede oturuyorsun?
- Where do you live?
The mistake to avoid
The particle is written as a separate word but never stressed - and person endings attach to IT, not to the verb.
Where this fits in
Greetings & introductions, Turkish A1: Say hello, give your name, ask someone else's, and where they're from.
