"From" is an ending: İspanya becomes İspanya'dan, Türkiye becomes Türkiye'den. It harmonises, and it hardens to -tan or -ten after a voiceless consonant. Place names take an apostrophe before any ending.
Examples
- İspanya'dan geliyorum.
- I come from Spain.
- O Almanya'dan, ben İngiltere'den.
- She's from Germany, I'm from England.
- Biraz Türkçe biliyorum.
- I speak a little Turkish.
The mistake to avoid
Proper nouns take an apostrophe before the ending: İstanbul'dan, not "İstanbuldan".
