Turkish news avoids naming the reporter: the reported clause takes -dığı / -eceği and the reporting verb goes passive - bildirildi, açıklandı, öne sürüldü, iddia edildi. "Sözcü riskin bulunmadığını açıkladı" becomes the more impersonal "Riskin bulunmadığı açıklandı."
Examples
- Görüşmelerin sürdüğü bildirildi.
- It was reported that the talks were continuing.
- Kararın önümüzdeki hafta açıklanacağı öne sürüldü.
- It was claimed that the decision would be announced next week.
- Raporun ilgili bakanlığa gönderildiği açıklandı.
- It was stated that the report had been sent to the relevant ministry.
The mistake to avoid
The possessive on -dık agrees with the subject of the reported clause, not with the reporter: "geldiğim" (that I came), "geldiği" (that he came). Getting that ending wrong changes who did the thing.
