Inte comes AFTER the conjugated verb in a main clause - Jag arbetar inte. English puts "not" after a helper verb instead, so this order has to be learnt rather than translated across.
Examples
- Klockan är inte ett än.
- It isn't one o'clock yet.
- Jag arbetar inte på söndagar.
- I don't work on Sundays.
- Nej, jag talar inte tyska.
- No, I don't speak German.
The mistake to avoid
"Jag inte arbetar" is wrong in a main clause - inte follows the verb.
Where this fits in
Numbers, days, time, Swedish A1: Count, talk about days and months, give the time, and handle numbers in real situations.
