Swedish verbs never change for person, so the pronoun carries all the information about who is acting and cannot be dropped. Each has its own object form: jag/mig, du/dig, han/honom, hon/henne, vi/oss, ni/er, de/dem.
Examples
- Jag heter Anna, och hon heter Karin.
- My name is Anna, and hers is Karin.
- Kan du hjälpa mig?
- Can you help me?
- Vi känner dem väl.
- We know them well.
The mistake to avoid
De and dem are both pronounced "dom" in speech, but they are not interchangeable in writing.
