A Swedish verb has ONE form in the present tense, no matter who does it: jag, du, han, hon, vi, ni and de all take the same word. So you learn one present form per verb, and you can never drop the pronoun - the verb alone does not tell you who is speaking.
Examples
- Jag heter Erik.
- My name is Erik.
- Hon heter Anna, och vi heter Berg i efternamn.
- Her name is Anna, and our surname is Berg.
- Var bor du? Jag bor i Malmö.
- Where do you live? I live in Malmö.
- De kommer från Spanien.
- They come from Spain.
The mistake to avoid
Learners coming from Spanish or German invent endings like *hetar or *heten - Swedish has none, and the pronoun can never be left out.
