Formal Russian avoids naming the doer in three ways: imperfective verbs take -ся for an ongoing passive, perfective ones use a short participle with был/будет, and the plain third-person plural with no pronoun means "people" in general. Any agent that is mentioned goes in the instrumental case.

The mistake to avoid
Marking the agent with от or с — the doer of a passive verb takes the bare instrumental (автором, а not от автора).
