Che links clauses when it is the subject or direct object and never changes (il problema che discutiamo). When a preposition is needed, use cui instead: di cui, in cui, a cui, su cui — the preposition goes before cui, never at the end.

The mistake to avoid
Italian cannot strand the preposition English-style — "il tema che parliamo di" is wrong; say di cui parliamo.
