A yes/no question is made by attaching -ko or -kö to the word you are asking about, and moving that word to the front: Puhutko sinä englantia? The choice between -ko and -kö follows vowel harmony. Other questions start with kuka, mikä, missä, milloin, miten or miksi.
Examples
- Puhutko englantia?
- Do you speak English?
- Mikä sinun nimesi on?
- What is your name?
- Missä sinä asut?
- Where do you live?
The mistake to avoid
The particle attaches to the word you are questioning, so moving it changes the emphasis.
