After a linking word like dat, omdat, of, terwijl, hoewel or als, the clause changes shape: all its verbs move to the very end. If two verbs land there, the order is usually helper before main verb (heb gedaan, kan doen).
Examples
- Ik denk dat vriendschap belangrijker is dan geld.
- I think that friendship is more important than money.
- Hij is veranderd omdat hij veel heeft meegemaakt.
- He has changed because he has been through a lot.
- Hoewel ik het moeilijk vind, probeer ik open te zijn.
- Although I find it difficult, I try to be open.
The mistake to avoid
Keeping normal word order after omdat ("omdat hij is moe") is the most persistent error - it must be "omdat hij moe is".
