Catalan pairs no before the verb with a second negative word after it: no... res for nothing, no... ningú for nobody, ja no for not any more. If the negative word comes first instead, the no usually stays anyway in careful Catalan.
Examples
- Ja no funciona des d'ahir.
- It has not been working since yesterday.
- No he entès res del seu missatge.
- I did not understand anything in his message.
- No hi ha ningú a atenció al client.
- There is nobody at customer service.
The mistake to avoid
Res on its own means anything in a question: vols res més?
Where this fits in
Telèfon, missatges i petits problemes, Catalan A2: Trucar i escriure, demanar disculpes, aclarir un malentès i demanar ajuda - el dia a dia quan alguna cosa no va com estava previst.
