Four very common verbs break the pattern in the present. Anar goes vaig, vas, va, anem, aneu, van. Fer goes faig, fas, fa, fem, feu, fan. Sortir keeps an o sound in the stem: surto, surts, surt. Venir does the same: vinc, véns, ve.
Examples
- Surto de casa a dos quarts de vuit.
- I leave the house at half past seven.
- Faig la feina al matí.
- I do the work in the morning.
- Venim a dinar amb vosaltres.
- We are coming to have lunch with you.
The mistake to avoid
Vaig on its own means I go, but vaig plus an infinitive is a past tense.
