Turkish marks an object only when it is a SPECIFIC one. Kahve istiyorum means "I want coffee"; kahveyi istiyorum means "I want the coffee" - a particular one already known. The ending harmonises: -i, -ı, -u, -ü.
Examples
- Kahve istiyorum.
- I'd like coffee.
- Hesabı alabilir miyim?
- Could I have the bill?
- Bu kitabı okudum.
- I read this book.
The mistake to avoid
This ending is how Turkish says "the" for an object - putting it everywhere is as wrong as leaving it out.
Where this fits in
Food & ordering, Turkish A1: Order at a café or restaurant, ask for the bill, and talk about basic food and drink.
