Turkish negates INSIDE the word, not with a separate word: put -me- or -ma- between the stem and the tense ending. Geliyorum becomes gelmiyorum. For "is not" with a noun, use değil, which stays a separate word.
Examples
- Saat daha bir değil.
- It isn't one o'clock yet.
- Pazar günleri çalışmıyorum.
- I don't work on Sundays.
- Hayır, Almanca bilmiyorum.
- No, I don't speak German.
The mistake to avoid
Değil is only for nouns and adjectives; a verb takes -me- inside it instead.
Where this fits in
Numbers, days, time, Turkish A1: Count, talk about days and months, give the time, and handle numbers in real situations.
