For what is happening now (and for ordering or wanting), drop the -mek/-mak of the verb and add -iyor/-ıyor/-uyor/-üyor plus the person ending. The choice of vowel follows the last vowel of the stem.
Examples
- Bir çay istiyorum.
- I want a tea.
- Su içiyoruz.
- We are drinking water.
- Ne yiyorsunuz?
- What are you eating?
The mistake to avoid
If the stem ends in a vowel, that vowel changes before -yor: bekle- becomes bekliyor, not bekleyor.
Where this fits in
Food & ordering, Turkish A1: Order at a café or restaurant, ask for the bill, and talk about basic food and drink.
