After the modal verbs kan, ska, vill, måste the second verb is a bare infinitive: jag vill sova. After almost everything else Swedish puts att in front of it: jag brukar läsa is an exception, but jag försöker att läsa and jag hoppas att komma take it.
Examples
- Jag brukar läsa en bok på kvällen.
- I usually read a book in the evening.
- Jag vill vila lite efter maten.
- I want to rest a bit after the meal.
- Hon tycker om att titta på TV innan hon somnar.
- She likes watching TV before she falls asleep.
The mistake to avoid
No att after a modal: jag vill sova, never "jag vill att sova".
