In a main clause, adverbs like alltid, ofta, aldrig and sällan go straight after the conjugated verb: jag går aldrig. Counted frequency uses en gång, två gånger plus i: en gång i veckan, två gånger i månaden, and that phrase goes at the end.
Examples
- Jag går aldrig till gymmet.
- I never go to the gym.
- Vi träffas två gånger i månaden.
- We meet twice a month.
- Hon äter nästan alltid frukost hemma.
- She almost always eats breakfast at home.
The mistake to avoid
Swedish uses one negative only: jag går aldrig, not "jag går inte aldrig".
Where this fits in
Daily routines & habits, Swedish A2: Talk about what you do every day, at what time, and how often. Reflexive verbs with 'sig' and frequency adverbs.
