Swedish fixes the conjugated verb in position two of a main clause. Open with a time word or a place and the subject moves behind the verb: imorgon åker jag. In a question with var, hur or när, the question word takes first place and the verb still follows.
Examples
- Var ligger stationen?
- Where is the station?
- Hur kommer jag till centrum?
- How do I get to the centre?
- Imorgon åker jag till Stockholm.
- Tomorrow I am going to Stockholm.
The mistake to avoid
Do not keep the English order: imorgon jag åker is wrong.
