Romanian reflexive verbs (listed as "a se trezi", "a se culca") need a pronoun that changes with the person and sits BEFORE the conjugated verb: mă, te, se, ne, vă, se. So "a se trezi" becomes mă trezesc, te trezești, se trezește, ne trezim, vă treziți, se trezesc. In a negative sentence, "nu" goes in front of the whole group: nu mă trezesc.
Examples
- Mă trezesc la șapte, dar sora mea se trezește la opt.
- I wake up at seven, but my sister wakes up at eight.
- Ne culcăm târziu în fiecare vineri.
- We go to bed late every Friday.
- Nu mă îmbrac repede dimineața.
- I don't get dressed quickly in the morning.
- Cât de des vă odihniți după serviciu?
- How often do you rest after work?
The mistake to avoid
Learners keep the dictionary "se" for every person (saying "eu se trezesc" instead of "eu mă trezesc") or drop the pronoun altogether because English has none.
