Most participles end in -at, -ut or -it, but the highest-frequency verbs are irregular and worth memorising as whole forms: a fi gives fost, a face gives făcut, a vrea gives vrut, a spune gives spus, a scrie gives scris and a merge gives mers.
Examples
- Am fost la mare săptămâna trecută.
- I was at the seaside last week.
- Ce ai făcut aseară?
- What did you do last night?
- Nu am vrut să te deranjez.
- I didn't want to bother you.
The mistake to avoid
The auxiliary never separates from the participle - say "am mâncat deja", not "am deja mâncat".
