This is where Portuguese differs sharply from Spanish and English. After se about the future, the verb goes into the future subjunctive: se chover, se puderes, se for. For regular verbs it looks like the infinitive. Weather verbs themselves take no subject: chove, neva, faz sol.

- Se chover, ficamos em casa.
- If it rains, we will stay at home.
- Se puderes, traz o guarda-chuva.
- If you can, bring the umbrella.
- Faz sol, por isso vamos à praia.
- It is sunny, so we are going to the beach.
The mistake to avoid
Se chove is a habit, not a plan - for a future condition you need se chover.
