Once everyone knows the thing, Portuguese replaces it with o, a, os or as. In European Portuguese the pronoun normally attaches to the end of the verb with a hyphen: reservei-o. After a negative or a question word it moves in front instead: não o reservei.
Examples
- O quarto? Reservei-o ontem.
- The room? I booked it yesterday.
- As chaves? Deixo-as na receção.
- The keys? I am leaving them at reception.
- Ainda não o confirmei.
- I have not confirmed it yet.
The mistake to avoid
Brazilian Portuguese usually puts it in front instead: eu o reservei.
Where this fits in
Deslocar-se, Portuguese A2: Mover-se na cidade e em viagem: transportes, indicações, hotel e bilhetes.
