Concession and purpose connectors - embora, ainda que, mesmo que, para que, a não ser que - always take the subjunctive, while cause connectors like porque, visto que and uma vez que take the ordinary indicative. Picking the wrong mood is what marks an argument as non-native.

- Discordo, visto que os dados mostram o contrário.
- I disagree, since the data show the opposite.
The mistake to avoid
Saying "Embora é difícil" - embora never takes the indicative, so it must be embora seja difícil.
