Portuguese usually drops the subject pronoun, because the verb ending already shows who you mean. Use ser (eu sou, tu és, ele/ela é, nós somos, eles/elas são) for your name, your nationality and where you come from, putting de before the place.
Examples
- Sou a Ana. E tu?
- I'm Ana. And you?
- Ela é portuguesa.
- She is Portuguese.
- Somos de Lisboa.
- We're from Lisbon.
The mistake to avoid
Learners say "Estou de Lisboa" - origin always takes ser, never estar.
