To ask whether someone has ever done something, Polish uses kiedyś with the past tense. The answer for never is nigdy plus nie. And a negated verb turns its object from accusative into genitive: mam czas, but nie mam czasu.
Examples
- Byłeś kiedyś w Gdańsku?
- Have you ever been to Gdansk?
- Nigdy nie próbowałam żurku.
- I have never tried zurek.
- Nie mam czasu na to dzisiaj.
- I do not have time for that today.
The mistake to avoid
Negation changes the case: znam to, but nie znam tego.
