Móc, musieć, chcieć and powinien are followed by the infinitive: mogę przyjść, muszę iść, chcę zapytać. Only the modal is conjugated. Powinien behaves like an adjective and agrees with the subject: powinienem, powinnam, powinniśmy.
Examples
- Czy możesz wysłać mi adres?
- Can you send me the address?
- Muszę dzisiaj niestety wyjść wcześniej.
- Unfortunately I have to leave earlier today.
- Powinienem zadzwonić do niej jeszcze dzisiaj.
- I should call her today.
The mistake to avoid
Musieć is not "must not": the negative of obligation is nie muszę ("I don't have to"). For a prohibition use nie wolno.
