To say something hurts, the body part is the subject of boli and the person in pain goes in the accusative (mnie, cię, go, ją). Use boli for one body part and bolą for more than one, exactly as the body part is singular or plural.
Examples
- Boli mnie głowa.
- My head hurts.
- Bolą mnie nogi.
- My legs hurt.
- Boli go gardło.
- His throat hurts.
- Czy boli cię brzuch?
- Does your stomach hurt?
The mistake to avoid
Translating word-for-word from English with "mam" or a possessive ("moja głowa boli") — Polish says boli mnie głowa, with mnie, not "moja".
